Three, Two, One Day until the 2014 Walk!

Thank you to all who have already committed to walking tomorrow afternoon! Thanks also go to everyone who has sponsored a walker by making a donation! We can still use more participants tomorrow, especially helpers to host rest stops, serve refreshments after the walk, set-up, check-in walkers, help keep track of donations, and take down signs. If you can help, please email renatahundley@gmail.com  or call 658-7446.

Walkers, when you arrive (between 1:00 and 1:45), be sure to turn in your envelope or bring a printout from your online fundraising site.  You'll be given a special CROP scarf and if you raised $100 or more, a special cloisonne pin.  Since the CROP logo has changed, we were given these "old logo" items that we are able to pass on to this year's participants.  (Come early since we have a limited supply!)

We also have some t-shirts left over from last year.  Although they have 2013 printed on the back, we will give them to our volunteer helpers so you can recognize them in case you have questions or need some help.

And it's never too late! You can sign-up to walk or make a donation online at cropwalk.org and then follow the links to the Ventura walk.  Here's the direct link

Join us on September 14th to learn more about the CROP Hunger Walk

With the hunger walk a little more than a month away, we will be coming together to dispense hunger Walk materials and information to recruiters, sponsors, and anyone else who would like to help in some way.
Please join us at the First United Methodist Church:

1338 E. Santa Clara Street
Ventura, CA 93001
Sunday, September 14
2pm - 3:30pm

Julie Brumana, Southwest Region Field Director of CROP's umbrella organization, Church World Service, will be there to share how CROP Hunger Walks provide food and clean water to communities in Ventura, the U.S. and around the world.  We will have available free DVDs and program resources for churches, community groups and schools. We'll also have lots of tips to help you raise funds, and we'll have more information on how you and your group can have fun walking or running while helping fight hunger!

Feel free to invite your friends to this gathering!

A Simple Way to Promote the Ventura Hunger Walk

If you have just signed up (or are thinking about signing up) to walk on October 6th, consider online fundraising for a simpler way to raise more funds. Take a look at this video:

Congratulations, Thank You, and Save the Date!

Thanks to everyone who participated in last fall's CROP Hunger Walk, we raised $15,351.93 to fight hunger locally and around the world!  Sorry it took so long to let you all know, but we got our last donation just a few weeks ago.  (If any of you out there have a donation you think is too late to turn in - it's never too late!)

We had a lot of positive comments about moving the walk to the fall, but having it at the end of the VUSD Fall Break was not so well-received.  So because we liked walking in October, please save the afternoon of Sunday, October 6, for CROP Hunger Walk 2013! This means we will kickoff our walker and sponsor recruiting as soon as school begins, if not sooner.

Your Ventura Walk organizing committee is looking for some new members, so if you would like to help in any way, please contact Renata at our address. We will meet on April 13 and again a few months later.  The more the merrier!

Ventura's CROP Hunger Walk is Only Two Weeks Away!

Wow! When we set the date back in June for our first-ever Fall Walk (we've always walked in the Spring until now), it seemed months away (it was!) but now we're down to counting the days . . .

Walkers, how are you doing with your fundraising? Don't forget you can also create an online web presence as part of the Ventura Walk. Set up your own page or have one person from your group create a team page that all of you can link to. It's another way to ask friends and family - especially those not in the area - to help support your walk. If you haven't already, take a look at this link for our Ventura Walk and see how easy it is to sign-up.

Most of our organizing committee members are currently on trips or about to leave on one but thanks to the internet, we are able to keep on working to make this event flow smoothly. We could use some help, though, so if any of you would like to do a little extra for this hunger walk, here's how . . .

  • We can use help putting up posters around town - do you know any businesses you could ask to post one? Your recruiter should have a few but send an email or comment to this blog or on our Facebook page and we'll get you some.
  • The money donated by walker sponsors goes toward fighting hunger but we do have some event expenses that need to be paid through other means.  The City charges $170 for our permit and we want to have snacks and drinks for you when you finish your walk.  Do you know a business or individual who could donate money or refreshments?  Please ask and let us know.
  • Do you know anyone might be willing to put our walk directional signs on sidewalks and poles on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning? Two people with a car can cover the 10k and 5k routes in less than two hours.  In the past a group of cyclists did it in less time.
  • We can always use help setting up and decorating on Sunday between 11am and 1pm.
  • We need volunteers to help prepare and serve refreshments.
  • Do you like to bake cookies or could you provide some fresh vegies or fruit?
  • Since everyone wants to know how much we raised, we can also use a few people to help account for the envelopes and forms turned in that day.  Do you know someone who would like to help do this rather than walk?
  • Take-down and cleanup won't take too long if we have enough helpers.
As the saying goes, it takes a village to put on any successful hunger walk!  Please keep on asking for donations and stay healthy so you can enjoy the walk around our beautiful city!
